Mission Statement: The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program in School District U-46 serves over 100 students across the district who have varying degrees of hearing loss. Our program employs self-contained teachers, hearing itinerant teachers, sign language interpreters, teacher’s assistants, an audiologist, a communication specialist/auditory trainer, and a counselor. The purpose of the U-46 Deaf/Hard of Hearing Awareness 5k Run/Walk is threefold. First, we would like to build awareness of our program across our district. Secondly, we would like to create a social event for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. Thirdly, we would like to raise funds to support our program and the students our program services. This run/walk is an exciting event for our Deaf/Hard of Hearing students to benefit from socialization, fundraising, interaction with the community, and the opportunity to realize every member of our program makes a difference.
